Location
The Sandakan Crocodile Farm is located in Sandakan. It is the largest crocodile farm in Malaysia with more than
3000 reptiles in the farm. Sandakan is the second largest city in Sabah after Kota Kinabalu. It is located on
the north-eastern coast of Borneo. Sandakan is well known as the gateway for ecotourism destinations in Sabah.
Among the popular ecotourism destinations in Sandakan are the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center,
the Turtle Islands Park, Kinabatangan River, the Rainforest Discovery Center and Gomantong Caves.
Overview
The Sandakan Crocodile Farm is the largest in Malaysia by topping the rest of the crocodile farms with over
3000 reptiles in its captives. The original crocodiles originate for the wild crocodiles which can be found
along the Kinabatangan River. The reptiles are breed and farmed mostly for their skins to be made into bags,
shoes, belts, wallets and many more.
Other than the chance to have a close-up on these large and scary-looking creatures, the farm has other
attractions as well. The farm also has snake and crocodile shows to entertain visitors who come to the farm.
There is also a mini zoo with a large Amazonian fish and a children's park. This makes the Sandakan Crocodile Farm
a pick for families to go to during the weekends not only for leisure but also for children to learn more about
these reptiles.
With Sandakan alone with so many places to visit, imagine what Sabah has in store for us. A short trip to
Sabah will not be enough. Do make sure that you have ample time here in Sabah. Accommodations in Sabah are
abundant. However, do make advance bookings to avoid disappointment during peak season.
Transport
From Kota Kinabalu, it is recommended to fly to Sandakan. Flight schedules can be checked for more details.
