Tanjung Aru Beach is located at the end of Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and is approximately 6 kilometres
from Kota Kinabalu city. It is the Tanjung Aru Beach which has a special place in the heart of every local.
When you visit the beach, you will find out why is has gained such reputation from the locals.
The Tanjung Aru Beach took its name from the casuarinas or aru tress that surrounds the sandy beach.
This is the place for people to get the best seats for viewing the greatest sunset on earth every
evening when the sun slowly sets into the horizon.
Overview
The Tanjung Aru Beach has transformed quite a bit from being hawker stalls to restaurants and beachside cafes.
The beach is divided into three sections, beach 1, beach 2 and beach 3. There are plenty of places to eat at
Tanjung Aru Beach. Foodstalls here serve food and drinks till late at night. You may opt to choose from
enjoying a simple meal of coconut and sugarcane juice with chicken or beef satay or you can also opt for a
full-course dinner at the seafood restaurant found here.
There are several activities which you can do here at the Tanjung Aru Beach. You can either take a jog or
stroll along the long stretch of sandy beach in the morning or in the evening. There is also a park here which
is called the Tanjung Aru Beach Park. It was formerly known as the Prince Philip Park. This is a great place
to bring your family for quality family time. You can come here in the afternoon and spend time here till
after dinner. There are many other places of interest in Sabah. You may opt to go for a day of Sabah sightseeing
or sightseeing in the city of Kota Kinabalu. There are many interesting places such as the Filipino Market
which you should visit to buy snacks and sea produce. There are some shopping malls which you can visit here
in Kota Kinabalu.
However, what attract tourists to keep coming to Kota Kinabalu is the Kinabalu Park and the pristine beaches
and islands of Sabah. The Kinabalu Park is the home of the famous Mount Kinabalu. It is at the Kinabalu Park
where you will have the opportunity to view thousands of species of plants as well as animals. This certainly
is an activity for those who love nature and for those to loves adventures and sports. At Kinabalu Park too,
you can opt for jungle trekking as well. Islands in Sabah such as the Sipadan Island, Mabul Island,
Mataking Island and several more are famous diving destinations. The picturesque view and the diversity of
the marine life here keeps these coming back again for more. Hotels in Kota Kinabalu are plentiful but they
do get fully booked during the peak season. Do book in advance to avoid disappointment.
