It takes a 2-hour drive from the city of Kota Kinabalu to reach the Sabah Tea Garden in Ranau. The Sabah Tea Garden is a sprawling tea plantation which is surrounded by lush greenery of never-ending rainforests in the cool mountain air. This is the place to go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life.

Overview

The Sabah Tea Garden is proudly the only organic tea farm in Borneo and one of the very few in the world. A trip to the tea garden is both fun and educational as visitors can have fun enjoying the various recreational activities available here. The activities one can indulge in are the obstacle-crossing in Sapaon Recreational Area, the night walk to check out the unique insect life and the trek along the trails to the peak of Kamunsu Hill.

The highly recommended activity is the 2-day 1-night Sabah Tea Adventure Package which includes a tour at the tea factory and plantation. It also includes a course on basic jungle survival skills, an understanding of rivers and how to cross them safely and obstacle training. This package has been awarded the Best Tour Programme for Educational Tourism at the Malaysian Tourism Awards.

There are a range of accommodations here at the tea garden. Visitors can choose between traditional long house, a cosy bungalow or in a tent. There are several other facilities for the convenience of visitors. Just nearby the tea garden are some places of interest that visitors can visit while at the tea garden. They include the historical Kundasang War Memorial, Kinabalu Park and the Poring Hot Spring. While at the tea garden, do not miss the opportunity to try the tea pancakes and Sabah Tea Pandan teh tarik. They are famous at the Tea House. To visit other places in Sabah you will need to extend your stay here. Accommodations in Sabah are plentiful so there is no reason to worry not having a place to put up during your stay.

Transport

For about RM15, you can get to the tea garden by bus from the Terminal Bas Bandaraya-Utara (City Bus Terminal-North). The bus will stop at Ranau.
